چکیده
There is global interest in both the beneficial and detrimental health effects of ultraviolet-C (UVC) radiation wavelength range 200-230 nm (known as Far-UVC). Technology using Far-UVC proposed a highly effective control measure for reducing transmission COVID-19. Far-UVC, other wavelengths UVC, are well-known to efficiently inactivate pathogens air on surfaces. Although studies have shown irradiation skin with 254 UV results DNA damage epidermal basal layer, (222 nm) shows minimal only granular which comprised non-proliferating keratinocytes. Therefore, accumulation these photoproducts would not be expected associated cancer risk. It has also been that even high doses exposure human do induce erythema. However, immune system are, best our knowledge, unknown. well-reported ultraviolet B (UVB 280-315 ultraviolet-A (UVA 315-400 cutaneous Langerhans cells (LC), inducing migration from epidermis draining lymph nodes, thereby suppressing function. Here we present data generated types (Fitzpatrick II-V) demonstrating little or no impact system, assessed by cell migration, at up 3,000 mJ/cm2 (US daily limit 450 mJ/cm2). These support safety filtered use, could transformative effect public health, allowing virus inactivation reduction independent behavior. Conflict disclosure: authors state conflict interest. Langerhans Cells in Skin Lesions of Leprosy
Background: Langerhans cells are important in the pathogenesis of leprosy. A recent study reported that these cells were almost absent in the epidermis overlying lepromatous lesions. Objective: To investigate a possible relationship between the number of Langerhans cells and the histopathologic spectrum of lesions in patients with leprosy. Methods: An immunohistochemical staining for S100 prot...
متن کاملEffects of ultraviolet radiation on Langerhans cells
Research on penetration of ultraviolet (UV) radiation into human skin shows that about 20% of UVA and 10% of UVB can reach the basal layer of the epidermis. As a consequence, Langerhans cells (LCs), located in suprabasal layers, are subject to the influence of the two types of UV radiation. This phenomenon leads to quantitative and qualitative alterations in LCs, including reduction in their nu...
متن کاملHuman Exposure to Filtered Solar Ultraviolet Radiation
The erythemal exposure due to filtered ultraviolet radiation has been evaluated with a dosimetric spectrum evaluator in a glass enclosure to simulate a sun-room with glass roof and walls, in a greenhouse and in a small and large car. The ratio expressed as a percent of the erythemal irradiances to the shoulder of a person in an upright position inside each of the environments to those measured ...
متن کاملWater-filtered infrared-A radiation (wIRA) is not implicated in cellular degeneration of human skin
BACKGROUND Excessive exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation is involved in the complex biologic process of cutaneous aging. Wavelengths in the ultraviolet-A and -B range (UV-A and UV-B) have been shown to be responsible for the induction of proteases, e. g. the collagenase matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1), which are related to cell aging. As devices emitting longer wavelengths are widely use...
متن کاملThe Far-Ultraviolet Radiation from Elliptical Galaxies
Since the discovery of the Ultraviolet Upturn Phenomenon (“UVX”) in early-type galaxies it has been clear that the stellar populations of such systems contain an unexpected hot component. Recent work has provided strong circumstantial evidence that the stars radiating at short wavelengths (λ < 2000 Å) is in fact due to hot horizontal branch, post-HB stars and post-AGB stars. We summarize the ar...
